Hi folks.
A bit puzzled. SOMETHING is cutting down my garlic, around an inch above soil level. It's the first time this has happened. So far, five have been attacked. Any ideas ?

Cheers...freddy.

Hi Geoff. Interesting, but if it IS rabbits, why is the stalk just left there ? Wouldn't they have ate it ? My first thought was birds, but since this is the first time it's happened (this being year 3), I'm a bit puzzled.

Cheers...freddy.

Hi Freddy,

The problem with baby rabbits is that they have to try all different types of food just like human babies and by trying bits of all types of food they can see just what food is going to be edible to them and the food that is best avoided{just like human babies}

We have even have them eat the tops of our runner beans and last year they ate our garlic and even the bulbs after they had dug down to find the bulb when we planted them in the autumn :shock:

Hi,

yes I think it is rabbits (please read Ugh Rabbits).

I have just made a tabasco spray, the instructions for which I found on line. This is to spray onto the plants so the rabbits do not like the taste.

I have only just made it and I will be able to try it tomorrow.

I will report back on my findings. The recipe was vague with no measurements so I have had to improvise a bit
