Just to let you all know, Old Codger finally got in for his hip-operation today, and all has gone well.
I had a word with his daughter earlier, and they are going to visit him later, so i will keep you all informed of his progress.
So if anyone can think of any messages to cheer him up, i will print them off and send them into him.

Yes, all the very best, Old Codger! You'll soon be pottering about in the garden again. We have several friends who have had hip replacements and they garden, hike and do everything they haven't been able to do for years - so, all the best and get planning!

All the very best for a speedy recovery Old C'
A near neighbour had same a couple of years back...he keeps himself fit with a very purposeful marching stride up the road each morning....
..and a bit of trivia....It used to be said that the replacements were once made at a bearing factory in this area...
Perhaps made further East these days..

All the best Old Codger, you will have pain free gardening from now on.

I read somewhere that the weather this summer is going to be very good. So you will have a good summer to recuperate.
