I see on P2 of The Telegraph today that Dutch growers have perfected a 'pineberry', which is a white strawberry with red pips, originating from South America which looks like a strawberry but takes more like a pineapple. Apparently it is now on sale at Waitrose.
Do you suppose that this is a genetically engineered plant or an F1 variety? I was wondering out of curiosity, if I were able to buy some, whether it would be possible to dry the pips and try growing some as an experiment?

I had exactly the same thoughts when I read it - whether they were f1s or would come true from seed. They look pretty with the red seeds and the flavour sounds interesting. We'll all be going to Waitrose to try them. I did see some white strawberries mentioned somewhere else recently but they hadn't got red seeds and looked rather insipid although it said they had a good flavour. Maybe those were just albino ordinary strawberries.
