It's already started. In our house the countdown (78 days, 1 hour, 17 minutes and 58 seconds as I type) to the World Cup is on; the wallplanners are going up; the diary is filled with the round one match times and dates.

The most alarming aspect is that despite having cats called Diego and Fabio, they are going to be expected to support England and I'm instructed to be on the look out for cat sized England strip. Tabitha, being a girl, is above all this.

I did suggest that Diego and Fabio may prefer to support Argentina and Italy but I've been assured they are England fans.

Help?

Well, the offside rule first came about by a grumpy old git who hated to see a good game in full fow. So he decided if any player dared to get behind a defender he wasn't allowed to have the ball passed to him.

Well that will be good enough for a football hater.

When I got married football went out of the window on mutual agreement.
I lost interest because of unrealistic amounts of money being used in the game and well the wife is a woman!!!! (well at least i hope she is, no Hayley Cropper revelations yet).

Will get some pics of the work i have done so far on my fledgling allotment.

I will actually watch the England games as I support our national team, but I can't get caught up in all the hype that surrounds it, and Tim is already so wound up about it I fear for his health! He's passionate about the game.

He's trying to teach the cats the offside rule as he knows that I'm a lost cause. Thanks for the explanation OH, but how do I know who is a defender?

Dear Chantal, the defenders are normaly the bigger, uglier ones.

It's times like this when I do wish I had a nice greenhouse in the garden. I could move out there for the duration with a comfortable chair, a good book, a radio and a glass of wine. (And of course my sleeping bag!). When it comes to June, I'm emigrating !!

A sharp pair of these, or similar, should slice through the TV cable nicely - and threaten serious damage to footie fanatics

i must confess ive never understood why people get so excited about 22 men chasing a bag of air arround.... or why they donate there hard earned money for tickets so the players can trouser their obscene salaries.

I'm really glad that my husband isn't interested in either football or rugby. He sometimes takes an interest in local team results but doesn't bother watching it.
When my son comes home on leave, he watches the cricket a lot and funnily enough, I don't mind watching it myself. Having said that, watching my son, watching England playing a crucial innings in a test match, is entertainment in itself!
