This year is our first year of growing everything from seed but have a problem. We have started the following in a mini green house which is in a out house so very warm and works like a propogator.

Sprouts
Cabbage
Broccoli
Beetroot
Cauliflower

After a couple days of germination we moved them into a mini greenhouse outside.

The beetroot have completley keeled over and died the rest are about 2" high and quite thin.

Do you think they will be ok and is this a result of them being to warm and growing too quickly. It seemed that after a day or two they grew to about 2"

Morning Adam, indeed it is a combination of, too warm and not enough direct sunlight.

I know it seems harsh but, i would start a fresh, taking the trays out into your outside greenhouse as soon as you see the first signs of germination.

OH's advice is "strict but fair".

Brassicas definitely do not need artificial heat to germinate and beetroot will happily germinate outside when the weather warms up (I wouldn't sow them before April).
I have cabbages, peas, lettuce and pak choi in a cold polytunnel and they are coming up fine despite the modules and pots being frozen solid at -6C just after sowing and plenty of cold nights since.

Have another start and I think you'll do well.

Thanks for letting me know. Last year was the first year of our allotment and we used plug plants for most of it becuse there was too much to do making the allotment (overgrown mess) workable.

This year is the first year working from seed so expecting quite a few mistakes but thats how you learn

Will re sow them again and have another go.
