The Moon!

Did anyone else see the beauty of the full moon this weekend. We actually drove up from our house to a hill nearby to watch it come up. It was so orange, huge and wonderful with a clear sky. On Friday I was up at 5am and watched it set behind Pendle Hill which we can see from our kitchen window, lovely.
I just wish that the weather would get better then I can dig some of my leeks up whcih are at the moment (all 80 odd of them) frozen in the allotment. :

We were driving home from Shropshire on Saturday night, it was amazing all the way. I switched off the lights near home to show it was bright enough to drive by.

It was quite spectacular here as well. There was some very high thin cloud that night and the moon had several magnificent halos around it.
Mars is also putting on a good show at the moment.

Yes, we've also had some fabulous sightings of Mars recently on clear nights. We also managed to spot the space shuttle whizzing across the sky recently just as the light was fading after discovering a website which tells you where to get a sighting.
We live in an area where there's a lot of urban light pollution so these sightings are a good reminder that there's a whole big world out there that we know very little about.

It is a well known fact in the accident and emergency departments that a full moon brings out the 'lunatics'. This was certainly the case last Saturday night, the streets and A&E were heaving with them.
Had I not been working I would have been able to appreciate the beauty of it rather more; I love moonlight.
