Rhetorical question really, but, why is it that the ground at the moment is either frozen so hard you cannot get a spade in it, or so soggy you cannot get the spadeful (Hertfordshire clay) off the spade?

When it's soggy my weekend is consumed with rugby, when its frozen the lads cannot play and I cannot take solace by going to the allotment and digging.

Dear Peter, there are some things in life we just can't fight, and i'm afraid the weather is one of them. It will soon be time to start proper.

Ever thought about taking up knitting.

Just back from a weekend check at work..

..and an Ice Cream Van is cheerfully making its way up the avenue opposite.

It is a lovely sunny day though....but frustrating for those wanting to be on the garden digging...including me...as I now attempt some pension paperwork...

I've just been to buy some bagged ballast for a job later in the week.

Also frustrated at not being able to get some digging done on the allotment,popped over there this morning with the weeks peelings from the kitchen and put them on the compost heap,but the ground was frozen after a hard overnight frost.Like Clive,I came home and did my paperwork for work.
Compensation is roast rabbit for Sunday dinner;and not from China but a proper one from Johnboy's neck of the woods.

hello everone ,could be a good two weeks before we can get anything done on our plots,last time i got on mine was mid december,,still loads to do,,,

Just watching partner digging last bit of vegetable plot. Its the only gardening job he does without supervision!! Come to think of it it is about the only gardening job he does, but it is a big help. I'm just hoping we don't get more snow as, like everyone else, I can't wait to have a really good gardening week. There is so much to do.

I can reassure you all that there will be no more snow now - I have bought my boys a sledge, pretty much guaranteeing the fact.

Dear Elle, i don't suppose there's any chance of you buying them some wellingtons and an umbrella as well, is there.

Unfortunately (for others) they already have those so I don't suppose murphys law would cover that! I will make sure not to get them new swimming trunks or suntan lotion though this summer.

My soil looks OK under the mulch, workable, it keeps the weeds down too, and adds to depth of topsoil.
Check out the video also works well in very wet or dry periods, if you are not convinced why not try one small bed ?
