Frogs coming out of hibernation

Do frogs usually come out of hibernation at night? It won't be long before I'm watching out for frogspawn in our little pond again, but although I'm often in the garden during the daytime I never see any sign of them appearing. Then suddenly one morning I'll look in the pond and there they will be, as if by magic. They not hibernating in the water.

I think frogs and toads are on the move during the night when they tend to be more active as in some areas they go out at night with torches to pick up frogs and toads stranded on the roads to stop them being squashed. Some frogs also hibernate under water.
