Did anybody read that BBC are going to revamp Gardeners World when it returns, with a Back to Basics theme, without all the poncy stuff they've been including in the last series? I think they got a lot of very unfavourable feedback about the programmes. I found many of them quite infantile. It's rumoured that Alan Titchmarsh might be presenting them again.

I see from the RT that Gardeners World returns tonight at 8:30 - a half-hour programme with the same crew at the helm. It might be a bit crowded with four of them joshing around on the deck(ing) for just 30 min.
Anything though must be an improvement on last year's dismal programmes. It will be interesting to see if the production people let the programme get back to basics as promised.

I thought I had read somewhere that Alan Titmarsh was rumoured to be taking over the lead in this revamped programme. I didn't really miss it while it was off air. More of the same doesn't appeal.

However, I did enjoy the programmes with Monty Don did on rural craft - wood turning and thatching. . So nice to see some of these activities being highlighted to give us an appreciation of all the skills which go into them in an age where only modern technology seems to be valued. It's just sad that it's so hard to make a viable living from them which I suppose is one of the reasons why they are becoming a lost art, especially when a modern machine can turn out a chair or other piece of furniture in a fraction of the time.
