Main oven broke down on christmas eve!!!

Good job we were not having a house full yesterday as our main oven decided to blow on Christmas Eve lunchtime. I put a casserole in our fan oven but as we were going out I thought I would leave it on a lower light than usual. We came back three hours later to find that the cooker wasnt working. :shock:

We tried the electrical shop for spares but although they were open they did not answer their phone. Lucky for us we were only cooking for two.

Tomorrow teatime we are five but I have made plans and it will be okay. Combination oven and small top oven and deep fat fryer.

Probably a small glass of wine late in the afternoon might also help :wink:

I've got a meat thermometor but does anyone know what the recommended cooking time is for the MIL. :shock: I dont want the roasties to spoil :lol:

Well thats it, no more cooking for relatives for some time, :D We managed, just, to make our meal. But had to have two goes with the yorkshire puddings as the oven was not deep enough for both the roasties and the yorkies so they burnt. The big oven is a fan oven so we are used to speed in making things but the top oven is just a normal oven so the roast potatoes took a lot longer.

When everyone had gone we ended up sitting and chatting till two this morning :shock:

Going for a walk now as we are expecting more snow tomorrow.

Hi Catherine,
I am so sorry to hear of the difficulties you have had.
Now you know your cooker more than I do but if it has a timing device make sure that it is set to Manual. I had this difficulty a few years back when inadvertently the setting had moved on to Auto but nothing set so it didn't work nor would it until the clock was set to manual.

Thank you JB. I have found that the ordinary cooking heat of the top oven is a lot slower than the fan oven which heats the bottom oven which is not working. I have always cooked, since we did our kitchen, with the fan oven, before that I had a gas cooker which is different again to an electric fan oven. Hopefully I wont have to practice my cooking again with other people. I dont mind if things go wrong for just the two of us but I hate anything going wrong when cooking for other people.
