I've just been looking through the new Heritage Seed Library catalogue and seen that they have this tomato on offer again. It hasn't been in for a few years.

It is an excellent flavoured, medium salad sized tomato and very productive. Mine had about 15 large trusses before they reached the roof of the greenhouse this year. I was really pleased as I only had a few seeds left, not having grown it for a year or two, so I've been able to save plenty of new seed from lovely strong plants to keep the strain going.

I just thought I would recommend this to anyone who hasn't decided what they are growing next year, it is well worth trying.

I wouldn't recommend Auntie Madge's though. They are quite small and although there are plenty of them their flavour isn't anything to write home about. There are a lot more better ones.

Hi Plum Pudding, thank you for the recommendation, is it a greenhouse variety outdoor od dual? I will give those a try.
I bought some italian tomatoes in our local market the other day, they were called flavorino tomate, they were obviously commercially grown, but with a name like that I just had to try saving some seeds to try the variety home grown and ripened on the vine, they were large coctail size, pointy plum and quite tasty considering picked underripe and travelled.

As far as I am aware, Flavorino (do they make these names up as they go along?) is an F1 variety, so you may well get something very different

Hi NB, I've only grown them in the greenhouse, so I'm not sure how they'll do outdoors.

The flavorino one you bought sounds good for this time of the year. It might be worth trying seeds from it even if it is F1, they sometimes produce a good one, but you're best to grow a few from it and see which tastes best if you want to experiment. As Alan says F1s don't usually resemble the parent fruit.

Further to my last post: Flavorino is definitely an F1 Hybrid. It is produced by De Ruiter Seeds which was taken over by Monsanto in 2008.

Thanks for this, Plumpudding. I intend to jointhe Heritage seed Library when I have used up the seeds in my packets, and this will be a good refernec point. I'm making a note of it for when I get started on it.

I'm still looking for a medium size 'salad' tomato which has a flavour as good as Gardeners Delight. Can anybody recommend one? I'll be growing it outdoors.

After a long delay, many thanks for the pointer to Kenilworth King George. Following your recommendation I got some from HSL and we have been eating them for a couple of weeks now. Strong plants, heavy crop and earlier than any of my other varieties with the exception of Sungold. Oh yes, and excellent sweet flavour.
