Alternatives to Gypsu pepper?

For years we've bought seeds of Gypsy F1 pepper. Smallish peppers but early and very productive - we had about 60 peppers this year. BUT I've just received the Simpson's catalogue, and they say no seeds for 2010, only plantlets. I'm guessing this is because of crop failure. Can anyone who knows Gypsy recommend something similar? I could buy the plantlets but we prefer to grow from seed - not least because relatives and neighbours also like plants from us.

Hi Ken
I've never grown Gypsy, but I have grown Antohi Romanian which is also early and ripens pale yellow to red. Unless you insist on a bell pepper, I can highly recommend this one. I shall be growing it myself next year.

But a warning: when you get to Gypsy you will not find it cheap

You are quite right about the prehistoric site Alan. I have just had one hell of a time trying to check out the price of Gypsy as the price you said hadn't clicked with me.
Gypsy is in fact listed in part 3 of the F1 section and all seeds in there are priced as you say. However Gypsy doesn't have the price listed at the side of it (as all the others do) but has a code "az" and this indicates to me that it should be in part 2 and as such would cost 1/4 g...£4.01, 1/2 g...£6.10 and 1 g...£10.13.
They say that 1 gram of Sweet Pepper seeds has a seed count of between 100 and 140.
It may be worth Ken sending an e-mail to them to check this out.

Hi Alan and Gerry, and thanks for directing me to Seeds-by-Size. What an incredible list, but also what a horribly confusing web site, as you suggested. I think I'm going to chicken out of using them, and will try a new variety, as suggested by Alan, for next year!
