Green-ness a religion - debate.

No I'm not trying to stir old arguments up a bit.

This week a judge decided a case before him in a way which means that from now on being "Green" is accorded the same legal protection as being Muslim, Wiccan, or Buddist.
To quote a Daily Mail article
"Have you ever noticed how closely green zealotry resembles religious fanaticism? Well, now the law has, in effect, recognised environmentalism as a religion.
An employee who claimed his boss showed 'contempt' for his green beliefs has won the right to seek unlimited damages for unfair dismissal.
In a landmark ruling, Mr Justice Barton found in favour of Tim Nicholson, who was made redundant by the property company he worked for.
The judge argued that a 'philosophical belief which is based on science' should receive the same protection as religious beliefs.

Best comment was on The News Quiz last night - along the lines of: "It's amazing that a view based on science gains more respect if it is equated with a delusional belief in an omnipotent being."

Thanks for that Parsons Jack

I feared that if I started going into the differences between concerns derived from scientific study and beliefs inherited from our non-scientific ancestors I might get it in the neck from the religious members of the forum :x :x

And we forgive those that sin against us, well most of the time.

Anyway Alan, i'm sure they would have forgiven you since you were coming to the help of an illiterate country-boy. :)

Well I don't believe in anyones god, but I do fervently believe in recycling and being as green as possible. I'd hate to regard it as a "religion" though!
