Is anybody else experiencing an unseasonal burst of seedlings as a result of this mild weather?
A few split tomatoes I left in the border when I pulled up my tomato plants have self-sown and are putting up seedlings. My Morning Glory seeds are sprouting in profusion and the nastursions which dropped their ripe seeds have resulted in a batch of young seedlings. I'm sure a frost will eventually arrive and kill them off but I can't remember an autumn when the seeding season has been so out of kilter?

Dear Primrose, myself and Old Codger were only talking about this yesterday afternoon over the allotment.
There were weed seeds coming up in abundance, on ground that he has recently dug.

All his Blackurrant bushes are breaking bud too.

The overwintering onions and shallots I planted have already sprouted green shoots.

The weeds are still growing strongly

Look at it this way: every weed that germinates now is one less to come up next spring

Dear Alan, thats exactly what i told Old Codger.

As for Old Codger himself, he's waiting for the date for his hip replacment, it could be anytime if someone cancels.
I reckon the old fellow is getting a bit nervous, so i'm trying to say all positive things to him.

One more thing, you missed the 'er' off the end of old.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing "the less young" one all the best for his operation.

Best wishes Old Codger. I had one done about 14 years ago and have never looked back. Like you I was very nervous about it but now I realise that it wasn't that bad and well worth the trouble. What's more I wouldn't worry if I was to have another. Just make sure, that afterwards, you do exactly as the Docs tell you.

Yes, our garlic has sprouts around 6 inches high and was only planted a few weeks ago.

Morning Codger, it would more likely be run over, than run after.

I think the plants are thoroughly confused. My Pierris Forest Flame is in full flower at the moment. Will it flower again at the right time?

Our blackcurrants are in bud too and the raspberries I've been digging up have new shoots coming through.

It's been very wet and windy here today, but not what you'd call cold. We need some frosts and cold weather for everything to slow down and rest over the winter, including me!

I too have been getting garlic sprouting. Some of the Broad beans which I put in at the end of September are already about 3 inches high and I'm afraid that if they get much bigger a severe frost will do for them.

Last year I had self seeded cape gooseberry seedlings in autumn, overwintered in the greenhouse they gave me a nice early crop, more to use this year. Also had some autumn apple blossom, the spring blossom still gave me a good apple crop. I picked the last sweet and juicy bunch of grapes yesterday, so this unseasonal weather had some consolations!
