Does anyone have one;and if so does it what it says in the blurb about helping relieve painful joints etc?
I am thinking of buying one,£125,and I don't want it ending up in the back of the wardrobe if my good wife doesn't get on with it.We bought a mattress to help alleviate her back problem and since the operation to sort that out was successful other problems have shown,hip problem from favouring back for years coupled with fibromyalgia worsening has prompted us to seek a solution to an alternative to replacing a perfectly good mattress and a better nights sleep freed from some of the pain.

Dear Snooky, i think they help some people, but your wife won't know really, unless she tries one for herself.

My Mother in law bought a full blown memory mattress for a lot of money, it seemed alright for a few weeks, but her back started playing up again after that.

Snooky, my mother in law got a full blown memory foam mattress and it took her a while to get used to it, you have to turn it top to bottom not over completely. But she does seem to like it. I am sorry to hear your wife suffers from Fybromyalgia, I also have the same problem which gets worse with stress and worry and missing sleep is one thing that makes everything bad. I hope you manage to sort the bed problem our soon.

I once spent a week sleeping on one of these mattresses. It was my misfortune to be doing during during a heatwave and although the mattress itself was very comfortable it felt as if I was sleeping in an oven because this type of mattress seems to retain far more heat than the ordinary fully sprung mattress. For this reason alone I would never have one. I suffer from a lot of back pain but much prefer a good firm orthopaedic mattress. If you're somebody who's normally hot in bed anyway (no pun intended ) I think this might not be the right mattress for you unless you have the chance to try one out on approval first.

We bought a 'topper' recently (2-3 weeks ago) from Aldi as the wife was finding the mattress uncomfortable. I think it was £49.99 and that was for kingsize. I would not say it was life changing but it is comfortable and the wife likes it.

I had a lot of back pain following an accident and bought a latex foam mattress topper which was wonderful. At the time the memory foam ones were very expensive, but they have come down a lot in price now.

I did use a memory foam pillow for several months and did find that it didn't go back into shape as well after a few months, it seemed to lose some of its spring.

I'd still get some form of topper as they make a huge difference just by providing a bit more give than an ordinary mattress, and if it is on top of a firm orthopaedic type of mattress it is comfy without being too soft.

My mother-in-law had a memory foam mattress (the expensive one). She found it very comfortable but, as she got older, it became difficult for her to get out of bed on her own. There was no resistance at the edge when she put her hands on it to try to push herself to stand up.

When I asked my chiropractor about memory foam v decent ordinary mattress with topper or just a decent ordinary mattress, he said "go with what suits you - just don't sleep on a knackered old mattress".

Try raising the foot end of the bed by about 3-4 inches with a block of wood. I did - no more back ache or stiffness in the morning. Cured my restless legs to.
