Taking cuttings from chillis & peppers

I need to prune back the chilli & pepper plants I've bought indoors for the fruit to ripen as they've become rather leggy and wondered whether it's possible to take cuttings from them to produce new plants in the same way that you can grow new tomato plants from sideshoots or any tops which have been snapped off. Has anybody tried it? Would the low winter light mitigate against success or do roots simply not grow from any cuttings which are taken?

I've certainly taken cuttings from chillies and atleast 50% of them have turned into viable plants. I used to put a polythene bag over them till the roots had established, watching for mould in the meatime.

I can't remember when I did this (suspect it was mainly in the Spring) but don't think you have anything to lose by trying.
