Advice Please

I'm going to over-winter broad beans again this year and wondered if I could plant my autumn onion sets in between. I'm not sure if they like the same type of soil and watering. Can anyone advise ?
Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't do it. Onions needs space and light to thrive. Come the spring when the beans start to grow they will crowd them out.

I can't comment on planting onions near broad beans but this spring I planted my onion sets fairly close to my courgette patch. The courgettes spread further than I had envisaged and those onions which were shaded by their leaves hardly grew in size at all. It's a mistake I won't make again so I also wouldn't recommend planting them anywhere close to anything which will shade them out.

Many thanks for all your replies. I shall have a re-think.

I would imagine that growing onions in between fairly vigorous plants would provide conditions where air didn't circulate very well and the damp conditions especially overwinter would encourage rot.

If you go by the companion planting school of thought they say not to plant any of the onion family with any of the bean family...
