Raspberry varieties

Can anyone recommend a lovely Summer fruiting raspberry variety please? Having cleared a space, we fancy raspberries to go with our other soft fruit on the allotment. Ideally, we would like a variety which doesn't grow to enormous proportions, is a heavy cropper with a lovely flavour. ( jam springs to mind here!)

We have looked at various sites on-line and there are an awful lot of raspberries to choose from, which is a bit daunting, so I wondered if any of you had preferences?

We won't be able to fit in more than 12/15 plants, depending how vigorous they are. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Elaine
My favourite is Glen Ample. I'm in the process of digging up an old row of this variety and I planted another row of it in a sunnier spot at the end of last year which hopefully should crop well next year. The berries are large, sweet and juicy with super flavour. The berries do need a sunny spell to bring out their full sweetness but I guess that this is true of all rasps.

Thanks John. This was one of the varieties we were looking at. I always like to check these things out with someone who has grown whatever I'm considering. There appears to be several raspberries with the "Glen" name.
Cheers.

Glen Ample is one of my favourites too. Large fruits with an excellent flavour and very productive. Far better than Glen Moy.
