My rosemary bush has died. I've been offered some cuttings from a neighbour's bush to try generate some new ones. If I take them now will they strike? Any advice please on how best to do this. Do they need to be taken from this season's growth? Thanks.

I've found rosemary cuttings really easy to get going.

I just take a short firm (not really new floppy growth) cutting from a piece that hasn't flowered. Then just set them in the usual way. i.e
Cut below a leaf joint, remove bottom leaves so that none go beneath the surface of the compost and push into a plant pot of cutting medium. I add a bit of perlite to the compost. Then place the cutting out of direct sunlight.

I them usually end up with more rosemary than I need as most cutting 'take'.

Up until about the end of the month is a good time now. Tehy dont; need hormone rotting powder or antyhing, as I find they strike easily. I leave mine uncovered in a sheltered place until spring, then divide and plant out/pot up.
