Do sunflowers get blight?

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

I've just picked aome sunflowers from our plot and some of the leaves have blackish brown patches which look just like blight. Anyone know if sunflowers can succumb to blight?

I have never seen blight on sunflowers, or Jerusalem Artichokes.

Dear GA,
they probably have powdery mildew.
Regards Sally Wright.

The answer is no and yes!
If by "blight" you mean Phytophthora infestans (potato/tomato blight), the answer is No.

On the other hand, if you are seeing something like this

it could be a fungal attack by something like Alternaria helianthi.

For a full (?) list of sunflower diseases there's one here. EEEEK

And good morning to you Alan - an early start?
Sally - It's definitely not any sort of mildew and does look more like Alan's photo but in larger patches - I'll check out the link. I never knew sunflowers were so prone to disease.

The flowers are OK so I can still bring a bit of sunshine inside!
