One of my greenhouse cucumbers ( Telegraph ) is showing signs of powdery mildrew.
In this months Kitchen Garden mag. it says page 18 under the heading

Problems to watch out for. Spray with one part milk to nine parts water at the first sign of white spots and repeat every few days until plant is clear

Please someone correct me if I am wrong here,

I am thinking, normal milk that you put on your cornflakes? but can it be any type of milk?

The important question is how does milk cure powdery mildrew?

Dear Alan. That is fascinating. My mother always said milk had "healing" properties . When I had a nasty stye on my eyelid, she regularly bathed it with milk.

I will give it ago.

i have severe powdery mildew on my peas, squashes and even flowers it seems to invade over night and can't control it at all! am i best to just try again next year or is there something i could do now to control the problem?

It seems each year at a certain point, squash, courgettes, cucumbers etc will fall foul of powdery mildew. I just see it as the end of the season and discard them.

I agree with Glallotments. It's just something that happens at this time of the year and I have never found anything to stop it.
