I get the RSPB e-mail newsletter and noticed with interest somebody had commented that blue tits in their area struggled to enter and leave a RSPB nesting box because the standard size hole appeared to be too small.
I've noticed a similar problem with the nesting box we have in our garden and wonder whether the fact that we regularly feed our birds all year round has meant that they're becoming fatter.
Has anybody else noticed this?

Peanuts are a high-density food with considerable fat content and seem to be a favourite with Tits in our local gardens so it could be accurate.
Especially as feeding the birds now seems to be a year-round selling industry as opposed to helping them through the difficult winter months.
