Its me again folks . . . :P Sorry, I'm just so pleased with what I'm doing, its bread and bread to you folks, been there, don that . . . ?

Been looking for a melon plant the past few days, nothing, took a different root home from work this evening. Called into a garden center, bingo, melon plant . . . and a great centre too, be visiting there again :D on the same rout I also found a genuine old fashoned hard ware store, you know, galvanised buckets, draws of nails, string and wire, got me a new watering can rose, smaller holes, 'fine spray, light rain' the old plastic one was more like a thunder storm :)

I also bought some turnip, swede, sprouting brockley and mixed leaf salad seeds. Appears I'm close to the end of the sowing season for these seeds, but I'm going to give it a try??? They are all in, another sowing in a couple of weeks, (pushing my luck), wait and see what happens?

The melon plant looks like a brute? it has plenty of space to trail in the green house, along around the rings, maximise space? I planted it in a ring, sinking the ring deep, onto half a bucket of horse manure, blood, fish and bone, plus some general compost, all mixed with a little water to make a very thick slurry. As I have often said, 'I no nothing', but guessed this might be a strategy.

Its surprising just how moist the green house bed is 12"-18" down? Considering its as dry as dust in the first 6"?

Every thing else in the GH is going well, I can almost watch the aubergines growing

Any advise on feeding the peppers, courgettes, aubergines and the new melon, and when . . . ???

Hi CJS

You have well and truely caught the bug!! Well Done.

I am putting my melons outside this year. I have dug in
well rotted manure and stuff in the bed and shall be planting
through membrane to keep them warm and snug. I doubt
they will need much more nutrient at ground level so I
will probably just use a seaweed feed if they look sad
- don't know if this is right but I expect someone on the
forum will answer us both. I believe it is water, water
and hot hot weather so lets wait and see.

I have 2 real beauties grown from seed and 4 plants that
I bought. I would have had more but didn't realise that
the dogs would like them so much!! Can't turn your back
for a minute as they have also decided they like zinnia
plants!!
