Onions

Hi Ya

My onions all seem to be flowering already. I am
nipping them off but as quick as I do there are more.
They are bulbing up but are a way off a decent size.

Will it be alright to just keep nipping or should I settle
for smaller bulbs? Whenever they have done this before
they didn't store well and started to shoot weeks earlier
than those that didn't try to flower. With the amount
in flower I would be pressed to use them all before they
started to shoot so would appreciate any advice - be it
a different way to store or whatever.

Dear Westi, a lot of mine are also bolting, and as they will not store, it pays to use some as soon as they reach any size at all, and then the ones that grow a little bgger, latter.

Sorry i don't have any miracles.

Hi Westi

When I grew from sets my onions were always bolting, I grow from seed now and rarely have the problem.

However, if you have a problem with an excess of onions that need using, as the bolted ones won't store, try chopping them up, sweating them down in a pan until soft, cooling and then bagging and freezing in small quantities.
