Yes I read that. And all we tomato lovers are also adding to the problem by eating huge quantities of them out of season when they're grown in poly tunnels. However it all seems to boil down to the fact that we have too many people on this plannet to feed by normal means and if we all reverted to eating only what we can grow in season, we're going to be in for a pretty thin time of it. Of course we could all opt for compulsory sterilisation after one child and population control but that topic always puts the cat amongst the pigeons. Isn't it funny that whenever anybody mentions climate change and the problems of how we tackle feeding, providing energy and housing an ever increasing population, this is the one nettle which no politician ever has the courage to grasp? Even China with its one child per family initiative still hasn't solved the problem.

Hi Alan,
The article should be called 'baffling with science.' IMHO not very well written!
One thing that they fail to mention is that many of the out of season producers of tomatoes feed the CO2 from their heating systems back into the greenhouses where the tomato plants convert the CO2 to oxygen.
I think that many things written about CO2 are far from the truth and certainly not written in a vein that normal people can understand. To me the article is somebody trying to be a smart arse!

i dont see how replacing lamb with chicken and pork is going to help... lambs basically gambol round fields eating grass whereas chicken and pigs generally are factory farmed in climate controlled buildings in artificial light being fed god knows what rubbish whilst being stuffed full of growth hormone and vaccinations.

Hi Richard,
You know very well that Growth Hormones are not permitted in this country!
You are vaccinated against certain diseases so why is it so bad that animals are vaccinated especially against things that humans are likely to contract. I suspect that your thinking sometimes leads you astray.
Pigs now have a vegetarian diet since the banning of swill and the current swing is to open free range pens and the Danish Method is fast disappearing. The same will eventually happen with Poultry but one of the largest factors holding this up is obtaining planning permission from Local Authorities.
