Hi. I'm staying at an elderly couple's house and they have asked me if this plant is asparagus. I've had to say I don't know but I know someone who does Please HELP!

Looks like what I've been harvesting - clear around it
very carefully

no digging etc as there will be others
underneath waiting to come up and enjoy the lucky
find - might be more somewhere else in the garden
as sometimes self sows.

Pretty certain that's asparagus. We had asparagus in our front garden, probably grown for floristry rather than eating. Anyone know if there are varieties that might not be good for eating ?
Incidentally, it has prooved pretty robust despite being in terribly compacted oil under a window where it gets trampled by window cleaners. It has survived my attempts to dig it out. Perhaps all this pampering that is normally recommended is a bit over the top ?

Hi Tony,
Sod's Law decrees that should you be trying very hard to establish the Asparagus under your window you would be forever saying "that bloody window cleaner has buggered it up again!"

Thanks for the confirmation.
Neither of them remembers ever planting it, but then, they don't remember whose garden it is most of the time. They just enjoy the garden in the here and now, which is perhaps what we all should do more of.
