Hi guys, i have a few large pots in the cupborad currently germinating - Carrots/Spring Onions. Both pots are covered at the moment (Matress cover packaging! seems to speed up the whole process alot!).

At what point do i plant these outside? They are both starting to germinate already, and should be outside soon. I'm just not too sure at what point i do this? I think, i'd wait till the seeddlings to touch the top of the covers on the pots, but am still a newbie at this, and the packet instuctions only say germinate, and when seedlings appear, pop outside.

Any advice'd be great,

Dear Carl, i take it the cupboard you are putting these seeds in, is dark, if so, you need to take the them out as soon as you see any sign of germination. If you don't do this they will grow very leggy trying to find the light, and they then don't make very good plants at all.

Yeah it is dark in there, but next to a window, and the whole door opens so they can get some light, but they don't get much really.

I think in that case, i'll get them outside today then! Carrot's are 1 week early! Supposed to be 14-21 days, and there coming through after 7 days!

I know i have to keep them watered, but overdoing it'll drown them, so is 1/2 times a week ok, or should i be doing more than that?

Dear Carlos, watering isn't a set procedure, you need to gather experience as you go along, but i would always let the surface of the compost dry out between waterings especially in the early stages of a plants life. But also try not to let the compost or soil totally dry out from top to bottom.
