My sister is giving a bare-rooted cherry tree. She has had it for about a year and has kept it in a bucket of water and has now decided that there is no room in her garden;and because I have room on the allotment I take and save it from the alternative, which is the bin!!
The question is how do I treat it this time of year as it is in full leaf?Do I plant it in ground as for a bare-rooted tree, pot it up and wait until the Autumn then plant it,or do I leave it in it"s bucket of water and, again, wait until the Autumn to plant it out?
It is a culinary cherry and not the decorative flowering type,I"m assured.

Evening Snooky, if it were mine i would be planting it in the ground.

Are you sure it has been in a bucket of water for a year ?

I would be inclined to do the same, asap, and keep it well watered.

Evening OH Pongeroon,
My thoughts exactly, bung it straight into the ground and keep it well watered.Just needed confirmation as a bit of a confidence booster. And OH the tree wasn"t kept in water for a year, wrong information from my younger sister who was given the tree by my older sister. It is wrapped in hessian with compost inside that and encased in a plastic bag and bought in Poundstretchers last November.

Dear Snooky, it should be perfect for planting then, by the sounds of it.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.
