Have picked up a seedling from the garden centre as I have never heard of it before, or seen seeds for this type of cucumber, so decided to give it ago. Could anyone help ,does it actually taste like a lemon or apple or is that just for how it looks? ( round and yellow!)

Evening Donedigging, it sounds as if it can't make it's mind up what it wants to be. :)

I must admit i have never grown them but, if i'm right, they are the colour of a lemon, need to be picked when the size of a small apple, they are a rounder type.

And oh yes, they are a cucumber.

I have grown a cucumber called Crystal Lemon. Looks like an apple. Easy to grow - just like a cucumber. Pick & use small - you get lots. They are good - I grow some every year.

Thank you Lady Gee,
Thank you for your reply but..
I was wondering do they taste like a normal cucumber or like the name sugguests? I have tried to google this variety and all I get is " Crystal Lemon" so I am thinking it's the same.
Also, are they a greenhouse or outdoor variety?

Just a quick update,

"Lemon apple" cucumber died of stem rot, so will never know what they tasted like :(

That's a shame. I've grown them before, under the Lemon Crystal name, but for all intents and purposes, they're the same plant. They will do outdoors OK, but better under cover. Wasn't that impressed with the taste - cucumber ( no apple or lemon in there  ), but a bit watery for me. Pretty in the garden or grenhouse, though, and a good talking point. Found the skins tough, and had to peel.

Dear MrsL,

I am really sorry it died, as I was quite interested of how it tasted,
Will note for next year Lemon Crystal is the same.
Thank you

It tastes exactly the same as any other cucumber. It's a ridge type, though, so forms seeds. But they're easily scooped out. It's very easy to grow and is one of the more reliable outdoor varieties.

Hi Donedigging. I grew this cue a couple of years ago and wasn't impressed at all. It certainly looks good but I much prefer the "normal" cues for flavour. Sorry your plant died though as it is much better to find out for oneself about flavours...one man's meat etc... Cheers.
