Knowing that peppers and chilli seeds often need quite a long germination time I'm wondering whether the process could be speeded by by using the same technique as sowing parsnips on damp tissue. Mine have already germinated this year and are several inches high but for next year I'm wondering whether it's a technique worth trying. Does anybody germinate their seeds in this way?

Maybe, though they'll benefit from warmth so you'll want some plastic over them and then need to watch for mould also developing.

If you can stand the cost, many people start chillies (and other seeds) in Jiffy plugs - again in a container covered with cling film or plastic bag in the airing cupboard. These have the advantage that you don't have to transfer the seed once it's germinated (eg. if it gets stuck to the tissue etc).
