just rediscovered an old bucket of these things which has split and allowed water in, resulting in an unholy lump of extremely smelly stuff; would anyone think I could dig this into my veg patch without adverse results?

Don't see why not. It's only water!

Just out of interest Aldi are selling buckets of organic chicken manure for £4.99 whilst the garden centre have the same item for £14.99.

I tend to sprinkle a few as I am building up the layers on the compost heap.

Dear MKPoshfan, i can't see any reason why not, but feel it might pay to let it dry a little, then see if it will crumble down a little.
If it won't do this, you might find you will be applying it to heavily, what won't be a good thing.

Hi Tigger, I've used chicken manure a fair bit in the past, so this seems like a bargain.

However I wonder about the description they've given - is this actually from chickens fed and treated organically (for those that are actually concerned about this) or are they just describing this fertilizer as from a natural source (as opposed to inorganic stuff like Growmore etc).

I'm sure it makes little practical difference to the effectiveness of the stuff, but it could be viewed as being slightly "creative"

I don't know but when I get home I'll have a look on the label and report back!

The label isn't detailed enough to tell, but it does have the organic certification.

What it does say though is it's water soluble, so that answers the original question!

thanks - I'll give it a couple more weeks to break down a bit more; I'm just a touch worried it might be too high nitrogen?

I went to Aldi in Leominster and they thought that I was stark staring mad because they had never had any chicken manure pellets and knew nothing about them
I have just revisited this site to see that it was Aldi and not somebody else.

well Johnboy if you WILL go to Leominster for anything what do you expect? (ducking) sorry; I liked what I saw of Leominster the only time I was there - spent a night at the Youth Hostel, a couple of years ago.

Well I bought three lots of them. Got through the first tub thiis week. Definitely didn't imagine them!

As a rule I avoid Leominster like the plague! Three super markets and no descent shops to speak of.
There is however the most wonderful book shop Border Books who seems to manage to get books that Smiths or Waterstones simple say 'we may be able to' or 'it could take some time'. So now I go to Smiths and Waterstones take the ISBN number and order through Border Books and within two days, normally, I will have my book even if S or W have it there on the shelf. I prefer to support an individual rather than a large company.
I didn't need any Chicken Pellets but thought at the price it was worth an experiment. I would have used them on half a crop and left the rest of the crop untreated. I hadn't decided which crop so now it is totally immaterial.

Sometimes they have their 'specials' in some stores and not others. Last year I bought a preserver at Lidl for £29.99. They didn't have them in Telford or Walsall but they did in Shrewsbury. Had to go back for another 3 for friends because they couldn't find them in their nearest Lidl (Ross and Branscombe).
