Hi,
I cannot believe it - just gone to check the main crop seed potatoes and the lower layers have got long white leggy shoots, Romano and Kestrel.
Should I knock these off and let them chit again (I don't normally bother with main crop) or just put them in the gound and hope for the best? I know some people think that the leggy shoots will never come to anything but isn't this what happens underground so planting them now carefully will do no harm. Won't get caught out again on this one!!

Hi Hilary, I would plant them carefully. It is just wasting the potatoes resources making them start again. Last year my Shetland Black had started sprouting in the bag ages before they should have done and I carefully separated the mass of shoots and planted them. They produced an excellent crop of very early potatoes in the greenhouse border.

Thanks Plumpudding - have left them in the direct light all weekend and they have greend up a bit so hopefully they will withstand being planted out and not break off.
