A mention of the acidity of soil and liming on another thread has tempted me to ask this question. I've often seen warnings about not liming soil at the same time as manure is spread. Can somebody please forgive my ignorance and explain why? I imagine it may be something to do with the various chemical components of each reacting negatively with each other but if one was foolish enough to do both at the same time or in relatively quick succession, would it actually prevent crops from growing?

Hi Primrose,
The answer is no it would not prevent your crops from growing but you have really explained what happens. It is best to manure in the autumn and if needed to lime the following spring.
