I understand that its good practice when preparing ground prior to sowing and planting, to apply a general fertiliser, such as pelleted chicken manure. Does this also apply to ground where onions or carrots are to be grown?
Thanks, Helen

Hi Helen,
Certainly where you are going to grow Onions but not where Carrots are concerned. Carrots generally require a boost at the end of June/July so I should hold off until then with the pellets. Carrots will germinate and grow in fairly poor soil but I am not sure if a buried chicken manure pellet would cause forking or not. Perhaps somebody else may be able to shed some light in this respect.
