With allotment waiting lists massively over-subscribed and people right across the country keener than ever to grow their own fruit and veg, the aim for Landshare is to become a UK wide initiative to make British land more productive and fresh local produce more accessible to all.

I think this is an excellent initiative, and like the National Trust's allotment initiative I think it reflects a growing desire of an increasing number of people to grow their own vegetables. I think the Credit Crunch has been a huge influence in this but anything which decreases our dependence on imported food can only be a good thing. How effective it will be I don't know. It will probably only work in areas where's there's a big match between spare land and people wanting to grow and by the very nature of big communities, there often isn't sufficient growing space to go round. I can't see people travelling miles to have an allotment, It would be too time consuming.
