With the recession likely to cause an increase in criminal activities such as theft and burglary, you might want to check out this three minute on-line questionnaire to see how your home rates in the security stakes:

I got 0% and the comment:
You need to take another look at your security – you are ten times more likely to be burgled if you don’t have good locks on your doors and windows!
If you own your own home, it is up to you to get locks fitted. If you don’t own your own home, get in touch with your landlord or letting agent to arrange for better locks to be installed. If you are in social housing, notify the housing provider.
Remember, your behaviour can influence how secure your home is, so always lock up, and be careful who you allow into your building.
What it didn't take into account is that, even though there was some increase in burglaries last year, there were still only 22 in the whole of the Llyn Peninsula - and those mainly from caravans and second homes. So we feel fairly safe

Alan, you're very fortunate to be living in a rural area where crime is low. When my parents retired to a rural location and we visited them I couldn't believe that they never even locked their doors when they went out shopping. They used to think I was paranoic about security and couldn't understand why we kept nagging them to lock up properly. Then the first time they came to stay with us for a week-end my Dad left his car unlocked on our drive overnight and when he went out in the morning he found his car radio had been nicked. He was a little more careful after that but still left a spare house key under the flowerpot by the kitchen door!
My garden shed was broken into last night. The lock was cut with bolt croppers and all that was taken was a 50mtr extension cable reel. If they come back they will get a nasty surprise, should start the dogs off next door and wake up all the neighbours.
my garage was broken into several years ago now, they broke the padlock on the door, funny thing was nothing apeared to have gone missing.......... the same night next door was done aswell and they took the lot,
the only reason i can think off is i tend to buy second hand or wilko tools wheras next door likes spending money on shinny new brand names.
i do sometimes wonder whether carrying a pocket ful of keys for all the padlocks is actually worth it, we had a plant trailer pinched that was chained up aswell, in our rural location opertunist walk in theives are non existant. the get in at all costs lot just make more damage if you make it too difficult for them . l
