Anyone else noticed the glaring error with this advert yet?

Do you mean a gas company making electric.

If so many people keep saying that wind farms are so non economical, they must have got their sums wrong or the share holders will be pretty angry.
Or is there huge incentives for doing such things.

Now our allotments are quite high up, ummm.

Which end does a plug go on?

The supply or the equipment using the electricity?

This advert has the british gas engineer pulling a 13amp plug on a lead across from the wind farm and inserting the plug into a socket on the house.

Now is the advert telling the truth?

You need to plug the wind farm in to generate wind.

On the subject of plugs, how about the Euronics symbol

its standard practice with mobile generators to have a lead with a plug at both ends, plug one end into the generator output socket , and the other into one of the buildings sockets, puts the generator power into the buildings wiring circuits... highly dangerous if you do it wrong.. you MUST turn off the buildings circuits at the main fuse box to separate the circuits you need to power up and to isolate the genny from the supply wires which may have a repair crew playing with them. and of couse any lead with a plug at both ends mest be used with extreem care... plug the genny end in last.

you can pick holes in most tv adds, they are made by people who generally have no knowledge of the actions they ere depicting.

We don't seem to get that particular Gas advertisement in this area.
A recent BBC guff was on a play on radio 4; a love story set in Ireland where the young lovers met at night to the incessant calls of a Tawny Owl. The Tawny Owl is not present in Ireland!

The proposed Wind Farm in this area and in our Parish has been recommended by Hereford Unitary Authority with letter of recommendation from Powys County Council the over county that will be affected. The project has been forwarded to Hazel Blears the minister responsible for the final go ahead. We expect her to give final approval in the near future.
These are four very large generators and capable of supplying 7500 homes.
Now 7500 homes covers an enormous area hereabouts and I have been all for these generators since the off.
The whole area has been obliterated with anti wind farm banners for many months. We have had campaigners from as far away as two hundred miles and most are green campaigners.
The strange thing to me is that it was the green party who kick started the wind, water and wave power movement telling us all that we have to change our ways of generating and conserve the use of fossil fuel.
Now when it is to become a reality they are all against it.
The Wind Farm Company have agreed to donate a very large sum of money each year to the Parish Council which they obviously must be able to afford yet there are those who are saying that these generators do not make any money. The cost is probably offset by government grants but there are several millions of pounds going into the project before the government will cough-up a cent.
I await Hazel Blears approval.

Johnboy, the gas advert is just in the newpapers, I think. We don't have a TV but I have seen the advert (and certainly hadn't noticed the faux pas).

Thank you for the advice. I only have the Telegraph on a Saturday for the Kate Mepham General Knowledge Crossword. When I read news papers I am afraid I never look at the advertisements so I would miss it in any case.

It is extremely dangerous practice, and should be done under no circumstances. Do not rely upon "being careful" to avoid electrocution. You, or somebody else, will eventually make a mistake.

Actually, this is a notable exception to what I said above. Domestic wind turbines / PV panels convert their output to mains via a grid-tie inverter, which cannot generate output without being connected to the grid (both for synchronisation and safety of workers in the event of a power cut). Some of them indeed do have a plug on their output, I think.
