Raspberry root problem

Afternoon all,
Lovely to be back on the lottie after an imposed absence due to my mum being very ill, but it seems that my raspberries have a problem.
I'm having a bit of reorganisation and putting in some new canes, but was going to salvage some of the old ones. However, the old ones have some sort of problem on the roots. It appears to be white, dense mould type stuff, but not fluffy or anything like that. If anything, it seems to almost fall off in tiny granules.
Anyhow, I've decided that I dont' want to spoil my new canes so I'm only going to plant them for now. Does anyone know what my old canes may be suffering from?
Thanks,
Vivien
