I have collected a lot of wood ash from burning trees that I have cut down.
What is the best use of this on the allotment. Should i apply it now as a general fertiliser or apply it to specific plants and planting areas when they are growing. What vegetables and plants will it be of greatest benefit to.

Hi Brenjon - I usually put a good shovelfull around fruit bushes - rasps, blackcurrants, etc are supposed to like it and I seem to have had better crops since I started doing that.

I'm not sure about veg although I usually add a couple of spade fulls to each compost heap every now and then.

Anything that fruits loves it - tomatoes, peppers, that sort of thing, onions too. If you have any overwintering onions, garlic put some round them. It washes into the soil very quickly so for use round toms, etc save some in a bucket or bag somewhere dry.
