I have unearthed some pictures of our village at the turn of the nineteenth-twentieth century.
Schoolboys digging in what is now the school playing field

A bill from our old smithy (1902)

Two horseshoes 6d, one horseshoe 3d.

Dear Alan, are you the lad with the watering can?
It took me ages trying to work out what the items were on the bill before the penny dropped.

Superb! What a lovely bit of history Alan.
I rekon school children of that age would die now if you asked them to dig anything!!

During the last war, the senior class had allotments at the school to help the war effort. I think my interest in growing veg started then.

Hi Shallot Man,
Which year was that? I started growing on my own account in 1943.

Hi GS,
It matters not which of Beryl Cook's paintings I have looked at I immediately break into a grin. Now her paintings are frowned upon by those who are sooo serious about art but then they look at Picasso and think his warped paintings are sooo wonderful. The words Clothes, New and Emperor come to mind!
I think she was simply brilliant!
