Greenhouse invasion!

Hi all
Went to dig over the soil in the ghouse bed today and it is almost completly full of fine fibrous roots. I guess they are sprouting from tree roots that I cut through when the house was erected last year.
The Ghouse is only 6ft from a laurel hedge (20ft tall) so I think the roots are probably from that.
I dont think the compost will support these roots and the veggies so I think I am going to have to empty the beds out and try to put down some sort of membrane but I don't want to end up with a marsh when the water can't drain away.
I wonder if anyone has ever experienced this and can offer any advice at all?
Thankyou very much
