Dandelion roots

Whilst removing weeds during my winter digging I have noticed that some of the dandelion roots are surrounded by a white powdery looking deposit. It appears to be dry, and confined to the soil immediately around the roots. Has anyone any idea what this is, and, more importantly, does it indicate a problem in the soil?

A interesting question, i too have seen this over the years but i don't know what it is.
I have not noticed any problems when veg has been grown on the ground that have had those type of dandelion roots in.

Dandelions have a very pronounced white sap in roots, leaves and flower stems. I wonder if that sap is exuded and then dries?

Good suggestion Monika; that sounds very feasible.
