This seems to be the place to say Hi!

I'm a new-ish gardener (only had 1 season of growing) so am hoping you wont mind if i pick your brains and ask silly questions.

Evening Smurfy, Welcome to the forum.

Don't worry about asking any questions, even if you do think they might seem a touch silly. :)

We have had quite a few new members since Christmas, so you are not alone.
Don't worry if you don't get an answer the same day, one does normally come along in the end.

Hi Smurfy - only done a couple of seasons gardening myself - and missed most of last year. Looking forward to get back into this year and full of good intentions - and a seed list as long as my arm with only a tiny plot!!

:D

Hi Smurfy - oh I have a few of those 'fancy' ones around, but have learned largely to keep to the practical stuff. And also the stuff we will eat!

Largely - as I have about 20 turnip seedlings in my mini-greenhouse and my oh hates turnip :(

Hello Smurfy, I have hidden food too......Its Beetroot my husband hates. I grow loads of it and could eat it every day.
It's quite difficult to hide though!! I have put it in curry before and he has not noticed :D

Hasn't seemed to yet but i don't use a lot. i once tried to hide celery in a stew though and he sussed that one out so i've learnt to be a bit more careful :)

Hello Smurfy and welcome. I'd be a little cautious with that beetroot if your OH doesn't like it. Even if you grate it up and put it in a stew, if you use too much your little secret will come out in due course as it's one of the best natural laxitives I've ever come across! I grew lots of Chiogga variety last year (the red and white ringed variety) and use it raw, chopped up in matchstick size strips, to decorate salads. Several people have asked me what "that interesting pretty striped stuff is?" and look surprised when they try it as raw beetroot has a vastly different taste from the pickled stuff.
