I have white fly in my plastic compost bin, i tried spraying with diluted washing up liquid, did not work. Tried diluted domestos, did not work. Thought white fly only lived on growing plants

After all other measures failing, I recently sprayed two house plants badly affected with white fly with a stiff dose of household fly spray. It killed them off virtually overnight and I've had no further problems. I'd be a little thoughtful about using this on edible plants though.

Like Beryl, I would think they might be compost flies. We sometimes have thousands of them and then they suddenly seem to disappear, certainly in very cold weather. They don't do any harm and only gather above the compost, not on plants or in the greenhouse.

Hello Mrs I
This topic has come up before and then as now the suggestions were to use household fly spray. I don't think that what you've got are true whitefly but the moth fly or sewer fly. They are quite harmless.

Thanks for all your replies. I think i will just leave them alone as they sound like those harmless moths.
