I think I must be a pagan at heart, because the winter solstice means far more to me than Christmas itself. We've turned the corner now, although it won't be getting lighter in the morning for a bit.

Ah Monika! We turn the corner on Jan 4th at 15:00 hours when the Earth begins its next journey round the Sun - I can never understand why this doesn't coincide with the winter solstice - something to do with orbits and the tilt of the Earth I think.

I suppose in Australia the effect of the two soltices are just reversed and do mean something. But do the Winter and Summer Soltices mean anything to people who live on the equator?
