hello,
Normally propagated from seed, could be done from cuttings from current years growth from a healthy growing tree, not from a tree that has been cut for sale, less chance of success obviously.

I wonder if you get the traditional shape of tree from a cutting? Growing from seed I think would give the usual shape with a strong, wide, bushy base.

Hi Gloworm,
The Forestry Commission tried taking cuttings of Norway Spruce some years back and as far as I can remember it was a disaster. They simply could not produce straight trees. The terminal bud of branches at about 6" long were the best but still no good but any lateral cuttings went all over the place.
They now grow from seed in this area.
JB.
