Asparagus - best variety?

Can anyone recommend a variety of Asparagus? I'm going to start a bed and am not sure which would be best. Should I order now or wait until spring?

I would leave it until spring. I planted some crowns last year (about late March I think) and they have done really well, producing good sized plants. One crown out of 16 didn't come up, so not bad, I think. I bought by post from New Park Farms in Kent, and was very impressed by the crowns in comparison to the withered little offerings in the packets in the garden centres.
