im not surprised the banks are having problems they seem to employ idiots.
we booked flights to lanzarote with xl . com. when they went bust we sent a claim into the credit card company (one of the big high street banks) with a copy of the email booking. got a letter back saying they were investigating the matter, rang them this morning, first off i was told not to worry as refunds from any credit card could easily take 6 weeks, i politely suggested that they put "xcel refunds" into google and read how other credit cards have refunded in 3 days, i was then told the dept dealing with refunds dont work saturdays, but the person on the phone could access the file and said it appears our claim has been referred to the problem heap cos we hadnt confirmed we hadnt been able to fly with xcel .... the booking was for jan 09.... they wont give an email address and suggest I ring back on monday.
meanwhile weve booked flights with another airline using a different card. what are the chances of claiming interest on the refund at the rate i would be charged if i hadnt paid off both cards?

Sadly, Richard, I would say that your chances are minimal on the interest thing. However, you should be able to squeeze a goodwill payment out of them for the inconvenience of not coughing up under the joint & several liability that they have under the credit card agreement, not to mention for being a bunch of numpties.

Good luck for Monday,
Vivien
