Thanks for the previous info on hard drives it has informed my purchase to a great degree. I am now looking at my internet service provide and have both TISCALI for my ISP (broadband 1mbps and my calls also) BT for my line rental, but I have been looking around and there are some better deals, what do others do / what research have folk done lately?

we use bt, purely because if something doesnt work its their fault they cant give you the run arround where the broadband provider says it must be a phoneline fault or the other way round.
just had a new bt wireless hub and cordless phone arrive today apparently we now have free weekend and evening calls on a new number that goes via the internet and we can use it at the same time as the normal phone ,and it says we can add another bt cordless to work at the same time ... presumably so i can call 3 people at once????
anyway we often have 3 or 4 computers on line through the one connection with no problems.

I was on a brand of Tiscali dialup (worldonline) for years and then decided about a year ago I really must crack and get broadband. I am over 5 miles from the exchange. I tried to convert with Tiscali but they said I didn't have a valid BT phone number (the line I had been dialling through to them for years) and BT said they couldn't supply broadband in my area (the neighbour is on BT off the same pole). Similar story with other providers (I suspect a fault in the BT database that they supply to others) then I contacted Virgin, no trouble they said. Signed up for a £9.99 package (should be £12.99 after a year) that includes free evening and weekend calls (not a bad deal when my dialup was £9.99). It was easy to set up and has worked well, not particularly fast at 472 download and 230 upload so I can't stream video but still miles better than dialup and doesn't tie up the line. In better areas I think their service is still good, competitive and obviously quicker.

Compo, if you want to leave Tiscali, be prepared for approximately 8 weeks without internet access.
We cancelled in May and weren't back online with our new supplier until August.
Tiscali are very good whilst you are a customer, trying not to be a customer is a total nightmare.Be prepared for conflicting advice every time you call them; absolute denials when you tell them that someone in their organisation told you different. Ofcom can't help, 2 letters didn't help(somehow they went to the wrong dept.)
I'll stop now.
