I'm still picking yellow courgettes

I am thrilled to say that up to now I am still picking courgettes. I had three small ones yesterday and there are still three or four small ones growing. In the polytunnel of course. Aurelia F1 and Parador F1 have done me proud this year with a very good supply of courgettes. I could not be happier. I will be planting these next year. With the Parador when I was planting them in a grow bag I took both plants out of their pots and planted one and then stepped back and stood on the other one. I thought it was a gonner so I put it in a smaller tub hoping that it would be okay but not worrying about it.

It grew really well and has only just stopped providing fruit. In future I will only put one plant per grow bag.

Is anyone else still cropping courgettes?

Hi Chantal. Which type of courgettes are you growing? I would be interested as we grew green ones two years ago and we did not like them as we thought they tasted foisty.

Hi Catherine

Yellow are Jemmer
Dark green are Blackjack
Stripy Green are Striata d'Italia
White/cream are Rugosa Friulana

The last three are all from Seeds of Italy

The best tasting are the Rugosa Friulana which have much less water content than the other sorts.

I'm still picking yellow ones too, but the green variety Genovese didn't do at all well this year. I have also been harvesting patti pans [but they are from saved seed so are a very odd shape indeed!] and other squashes [ditto = they were meant to be Tom Fox pumpkins] but the pumpkins we grew from fresh seed are coming to ripen now. We've been chain-souping all autumn so far.

We, too, are still picking yellow courgettes. After previous years' gluts I only planted two (Goldrush . . . or at least they were originally - I'm now using self-saved seed), but they have grown to enormous proportions. We've been trying to keep up by eating them lightly steamed whilst they're still very small, but have just come back from 4 days jaunt and they've ballooned again!

Curried courgette soup again for lunch :?

Hi Mike, my patty pans did nothing this year very disappointing as I grew them especially to order for my OH who loves them roasted I think I got three off three plants

Thanks Chatal will try them next year. Earlier in the year we went to Harlow Carr and was pleased to see that they had a very good supply or Seed of Italy must go and have another look. Though I have been put on a seed halt with my buying as this year I really got carried away and have rather a lot of seeds to use up. I am going to go through them this next week and make a list on the ocmputer and sowing times then at least I can plant at the right times instead of late which I have been this year.

I've just been and picked another four stripy courgettes, the yellow ones now appear to have finished. More of the white ones are growing too.

Well I have just come back from my plot with, I think, my very last courgettes, six about three inches long and they have been washed and popped into the veggie dhansak I have bubbling away on the hob.

Picked my last tiny courgette yesterday and the plants are now on the compost heap. Sad to see them go although at one point I had so many that we were growing sick of the sight of them.

My courgettes/marrows/winter squash lasted until mid-October.
All on the compost heap now. Lots of chutney made :D and the squash, in particular, were very tasty, just finishing the last of them now.

I picked my last two yesterday and although there are more forming, I doubt they'll come to anything and will likely freeze to death this week.
